Shipping & Returns

Shipping policy

When will my order ship?

  • When items are in-stock, orders placed before 8am CT should ship out that same business day from our Illinois warehouse.
  • Depending on your shipping address and the shipping method you select at checkout, in-stock items should arrive between 7-10 business days.
  • If your order contains a preordered/backordered item, no items in your order will ship until the preordered item becomes available (i.e. your order will ship all at once.)

Do you ship internationally?

  • We offer two international shipping methods, Passport and DHL. Passport has all taxes and duties included in the shipping cost. DHL is delivered duties unpaid, and you may be responsible for taxes and duties when your package is delivered.
  • International orders are subject to unpredictable delays by customs, and are subject to security mandates, duties, and other fees upon receipt.
  • Please allow international orders a significant amount of flexibility in timeframe to receipt.
  • We do accept international returns, but we are unable to generate return labels for international shipments.

  • Once an order has shipped, we are unable to cancel it.

Refund policy

Return Policy

For non-damaged, standard returns:

Our products may be returned if they were purchased within the last 90 days, are unused, and are still in their original packaging. Original shipping costs are already collected by the shipper, and therefore the original shipping costs are not refundable.

We will provide a pre-paid return label to you. The maximum shipping cost covered will be $20. If the return shipping costs in excess of $20 to ship it to us, that will be deducted from the refund amount. (Meaning, if one orders 30 bibles and changes their mind after receiving them, it would not be good stewarding of our donor-provided funds for the ministry to cover that return shipment.)

Exceptions and limitations:

  • Bulk books (evangelization pricing): Books sold in pre-boxed quantities are evangelistic in nature and priced as low as possible, and we cover the original shipping cost. For that reason, we are unable to cover return shipping costs for bulk books. If you choose to return a bulk book, return shipping will be the customer’s responsibility in that case.
  • Seasonal titles (including Advent and Lenten Gospel Reflections): Seasonal titles are final sale and are not eligible for returns or refunds.

For damaged items:

For damages to the item that are significant in nature, such as missing pages, large gashes in the cover, major creases in the cover, or dents, etc, please email us at sales@wordonfire.org for a no-cost replacement. For minor damages, like a nick or otherwise tiny blemish, or a slightly bent inward corner, or a slightly flaked embossing, these returns may be accepted but the return shipping will not be covered in order to be good stewards of the donor provided funds that make our non-profit ministry possible. For items that are shipped in protective packaging, such as the Leather Bible, note that the outer box is meant to absorb damage in shipping, and the box should not be considered the product itself, and the box is not replaceable.

How can I set up my return?

Please email us to set up your return at sales@wordonfire.org.

Your order record will be retrieved by the system based on the email address you used to make the purchase. For this reason, please have the email address or the order number (example: Q######) handy when beginning the return process. We are able to accept international returns, but we are unable to generate return shipping labels from countries outside the United States.

Guarantee

Damaged items

If your book arrives with significant damage, such as missing pages, large cover gashes, major creases or dents, email sales@wordonfire.org for a no-cost replacement.

Minor blemishes may be accepted for return, but return shipping is not covered. Protective outer packaging is not considered the product and is not replaceable.

The Everlasting Man

A Guide to G.K. Chesterton’s Masterpiece

by G.K. Chesterton

Commentary by Dale Ahlquist

Among the many masterpieces of G.K. Chesterton, The Everlasting Man is his crowning achievement. It was the book that set a young atheist named C.S. Lewis on the path toward Christianity. Evelyn Waugh called it “a permanent monument” that “needs no elucidation.” And its lively prose and compelling defense of Christianity have dazzled readers ever since.

But a little elucidation, it turns out, is needed. Chesterton’s presentation of the story of humanity and religion is filled with obscure literary, historical, mythological, philosophical, and theological references—most of which are largely lost on today’s readers. And Chesterton’s paradoxical and apparently wandering style proves, at times, disorienting to newcomers.

In this groundbreaking guide—the first of its kind—one of the world’s leading authorities on Chesterton walks readers through the entirety of this great apologist’s text. Complete with an introduction, footnotes, and running commentary, Dale Ahlquist’s tour through Chesterton’s classic will draw new readers into his literary world—and old readers even deeper into his literary genius.

Your Life Is a Story

G.K. Chesterton and the Paradox of Freedom

by Brady Stiller

Foreword by Dale Ahlquist

What is the meaning of life? Do we create meaning or find it? Every person, implicitly or explicitly, has a conception of the meaning of life, which is intimately connected to our view of human freedom. How we answer these questions determines the course of our lives and our fulfillment.

Drawing from the great writer G.K. Chesterton, Brady Stiller identifies four dominant philosophical positions on meaning in our day—determinism, existentialism, skepticism, and nihilism—and evaluates their answers to these ultimate questions, and how they fall short. Evoking Chesterton’s notion of paradox, Stiller proposes a philosophical position more true to reality—namely, that the meaning of life is both objective and subjective at the same time. By viewing life as a story with both determined and undetermined aspects, we are equipped to coauthor our stories with the divine author, discovering our role in the grand drama of creation.

What People are Saying

Joseph Pearce headshot

“Chesterton is arguably the greatest apologist of the Catholic literary revival, and The Everlasting Man is arguably his greatest work of apologetics. Dale Ahlquist is arguably the greatest apologist for Chesterton and the key figure in the Chesterton revival. There is, therefore, no better person to guide us through The Everlasting Man than Dale Ahlquist. He takes us further up and further in. He dives and delves deeper. He enables us to fathom the depths of Chesterton's brilliance as expressed in what is probably Chesterton's most brilliant work. I am so grateful to Word on Fire for publishing this indispensable book. It is an answer to prayer.”

— Joseph Pearce, Author of Wisdom and Innocence: A Life of G.K. Chesterton

James Conley headshot

“St. John Paul II once wrote that ‘Jesus Christ is the answer to the question that is posed by every human life.’ One hundred years ago, G.K. Chesterton set out to unpack this idea in his spiritual odyssey, The Everlasting Man. If it is true that Chesterton was one of the most complete writers of the twentieth century, then The Everlasting Man is the most complete book Chesterton ever wrote. Dale Ahlquist, arguably the world’s greatest living expert on the writings of G.K. Chesterton, has given us an opportunity, with helpful notes and ongoing commentary, to delve deeply into the genius of Chesterton on the most fundamental questions of the human experience. Hard to categorize, The Everlasting Man is a philosophical, theological, historical, and literary masterpiece. I actually read this book in my undergraduate years, before my conversion to the Catholic Church, and it was a huge stepping stone in my own crossing of the Tiber. I am thrilled that this epic work is being republished again. The reader will not be disappointed!”

— Bishop James Conley, Diocese of Lincoln, Nebraska

Christopher Check headshot

“When people ask me what three books to read to understand the world, I always tell them Manzoni’s The Betrothed, because it contains all social thought; Undset’s Kristen Lavransdatter, because it contains all moral theology; and Chesterton’s Everlasting Man, because it contains all human history. Why? All human history converges on the Incarnation and then proceeds from it. Chesterton stands alongside St. Augustine in opening our eyes and hearts to this reality, and Dale Ahlquist has done nothing short of heroic work in at last giving mankind an edition worthy of the masterpiece.”

— Christopher Check, President of Catholic Answers

Dwight Longenecker headshot

“G.K. Chesterton’s robust and rollicking The Everlasting Man is one of those volumes that is everlastingly fresh and up to date. Nevertheless, many of Chesterton's contemporary references can make the text confusing for the modern reader. Dale Ahlquist, Chesterton’s supreme commentator and promoter, provides the notes and explanations that illuminate the obscure references for a new generation of readers. This volume should be on the required reading list for every high school and college student.”

— Fr. Dwight Longenecker, Blogger, speaker, and author of Beheading Hydra and Immortal Combat
