Joseph Ratzinger

Joseph Ratzinger (1927–2022), Pope Benedict XVI from 2005 to 2013, served the Church as priest, theologian, bishop, prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and pope. An influential theological peritus at the Second Vatican Council, he became one of Catholicism’s most penetrating interpreters of modern thought and culture, at once receptive and critical. His writings continue to shape Catholic theology across biblical interpretation, liturgy, Christology, ecclesiology, and fundamental theology.
